A program at Zion National Park promises to reveal the secrets of a 75-year-old mystery involving U.S. President Warren Harding and his wife, Florence.
On Thursday, July 9, biographer Carl Anthony will lecture on the Hardings' 1923 Western journey. Three weeks after the couple visited Zion National Park, the president was dead. Rumors have persisted ever since that the first lady poisoned him.The program begins at 8 p.m. in the Zion Lodge Auditorium, four miles north of park headquarters in Zion Canyon.
Anthony is the author of "Florence Harding: The First Lady, The Jazz Age and the Death of America's Most Scandalous President." The book looks at the Hardings' 15,000-mile "Journey of Understanding" and cites previously unpublished documentation, such as medical records, Florence Harding's private diary and FBI records.
At 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, the Utah State Historical Society will host a lecture and book signing by Anthony in the west lecture room of Salt Lake City's Rio Grande Depot, 455 W. 300 South. Call 533-3545 for more information.
