SALT LAKE CITY — Gov.-elect Spencer Cox announced Saturday he will be inaugurated at southern Utah’s Tuacahn Amphitheatre.
“This will be the first inauguration ever held in rural Utah,” Cox said during a video announcing the event.
Cox and his family live in rural Fairview, Sanpete County, where he was raised.
The inauguration will take place on Jan. 4 — the 125th anniversary of Utah’s statehood — at the outdoor theater in Ivins, Washington County.
“Our inauguration will look a little different than those of the past, including testing, strict physical distancing, wearing our masks, holding the event outdoors (rain or shine) and more. We are working closely with @UtahDepOfHealth to ensure a safe event for everyone,” Cox tweeted.
During the inauguration, Cox, Lt. Gov.-elect Deidre M. Henderson, Treasurer David C. Damschen, Auditor John Dougall and Attorney General Sean D. Reyes will take their oaths of office. The event will also include inaugural addresses, musical performances and a 19-gun salute and flyover by the Utah National Guard.
A limited number of tickets are available at utahinauguralcommission.org. The event will also be live-streamed.
Cox and Henderson also issued an “urgent call for help” for food donations for the 500,000 Utahns who experience hunger throughout the state.
The OneUtah Food Drive will run until the inauguration in January. Those interested can contribute money directly to the Utah Food Bank, donate food and supplies to their local food pantries, or volunteer their time.
