Former University of Utah quarterback Charlie Brewer is transferring to Liberty, according to multiple reports.
Brewer was named Utah’s starting quarterback coming out of fall camp. He started three games for the Utes as they went 1-2 to start the season.
Brewer was benched during Utah’s overtime loss to San Diego State, replaced by Cam Rising, who helped lead the Utes to a Pac-12 championship, a Rose Bowl appearance and a 9-1 record in conference play.
Brewer, a four-year starter at Baylor, completed 61% of his passes at Utah, with three touchdowns and three interceptions. Shortly after being benched, Brewer entered the transfer portal.
Before Utah, Brewer played four years at Baylor. In 2019, he led the Bears to an 11-1 regular season, a berth in the Big 12 championship game and a Sugar Bowl appearance.
Liberty, in Lynchburg, Virginia, competes as a Division I independent and went 7-5 in 2021. The Flames are coached by Hugh Freeze, the former head coach at Ole Miss. Liberty hosts BYU on Oct. 22, 2022.
