Moab Police reportedly released a bodycam video of an emotional confrontation between Gabby Petito and her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, of an altercation in Utah that happened two weeks before her disappearance.
Petito and Laundrie were on a cross-country road trip that started in July. The couple spent several weeks in Utah, visiting the Mystic Hot Springs and Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands and Arches national parks throughout July and August.
On Sept. 11, Petito was reported missing. Laundrie had already returned home to North Port, Florida, on Sept. 1 by that point. Petito’s last known location was on Aug. 30 in Grand Teton National Park.
Earlier this week, reports surfaced that the couple were involved in an incident in Moab. Details of the incident were revealed through a Moab police report, which was obtained by multiple outlets and is available to read online.
Per The Washington Post, Petito and Laundrie had a small argument outside the Moonflower Community Cooperative, which is a natural food store in Moab. Later, police stopped the couple since a bystander, named Christopher, said he had seen to a male “assault a female.”
NBC 2 in North Port, Florida, received bodycam footage of Petito and Laundrie’s discussion with police. In the video, Petito appears visibly upset after the argument. You can watch the footage here. It’s more than one hour long and contains mature language.
Moab Police Chief Bret Edge told the Deseret News Thursday that the Moab City Police Department is no longer involved with the case and will not comment anymore on the matter. Edge did not explain why.
“We are not engaged in the missing persons investigation and our own case is closed,” he told me in an email. “We will not have any further updates on our case nor will we comment on the missing persons case.”
The North Port Police Department — located in North Port, Florida, where Petito and Laundrie lived — said it would take the lead on the missing woman’s case, working with the FBI as well, per WSSB-TV.
